Needs Assessment

What You Can Expect From RIDCA

(Regional Intellectual Disability Care Agency)

Information for people referred to RIDCA who are not under the Intellectual Disability (Compulsory Care and Rehabilitation) Act 2003

When a referral is made to RIDCA, the referrer will receive a letter confirming that the referral has been received.

Once a referral has been accepted the referred person will be contacted so that a Needs Assessment can be arranged. Under most circumstances the referred person is able to choose:
  • Where the assessment will take place
  • A date and time that is convenient
  • Who is at the assessment with them. They can have as many people as they wish to support them at the assessment.
If an interpreter is needed, or any other communication support, please let us know and we can help arrange these.

All information gathered during an assessment belongs to the referred person. Information cannot be gathered from other people without written consent. The assessment cannot be used in any way unless it is signed to say it is an accurate record of needs and choices.

There is no cost for a Needs Assessment.

What would be helpful for us?
  • Accurate information about support needs is provided at the assessment
  • If the referred person’s circumstances change, and needs are not being met, we are notified as soon as the change occurs
  • We are advised if the referred person is unhappy with any services they are receiving
  • If the referred person or someone known to him/her lets us know if more or less services are needed
